CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The annual Courtsiders golf outing was Monday, June 24, at Stone Creek Golf Club in Urbana, Ill., and the club raised over $30,000 for the Illini women's basketball program. All of those proceeds will go toward the team's foreign tour in the summer of 2014. Last season, the outing netted $15,000.
The outing featured 108 golfers in a scramble format, while 211 supporters attended the dinner and auction. The foursome of associate head coach Mike Divilbiss, Hud Englehart, Bill Hobbs and Danny More won the golf outing with a score of 56.
The entire Illini team mingled with golfers throughout the round and helped with the "Beat the Coach," longest drive and longest putt competitions. They also joined the fans for dinner. Illini head men's basketball coach John Groce was the evening's keynote speaker.
The most lucrative item during the live auction was for a group of four traveling with the Illini on a Big Ten trip, which went for $2,000. A non-conference trip with the team was bid up to $1,800, and the "Coach of the Game" package for a home game raised $1,600. The "Beat the Coach" competition on hole No. 3 also netted $1,500.
