CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - All six University of Illinois signees in the class of 2013 have led their high school teams to postseason success or earned a major award in the 2012-13 season, proving why they were Collegiate Girls Basketball Report's 25th-ranked class on signing day in November. Goodrich (Mich.) High School standout Taylor Gleason was named the Michigan Miss Basketball runner-up on Monday, while Jacqui Grant (Maine South H.S.) and Sarah Livingston (Morton H.S.) were named All-State by the Chicago Tribune.
Mikaala Shackelford has helped Hopkins (Minn.) H.S. to Wednesday's Minnesota Class 4A state quarterfinal, Kennedy Cattenhead's Bolingbrook H.S. squad lost by one point in overtime of the IHSA Class 4A super-sectional to Whitney Young H.S. and Leah Bolton's Marist team fell by two points in the sectional final to eventual IHSA Class 4A state champion Marian Catholic.
Gleason has led Goodrich to the Michigan Class B state quarterfinal game on Tuesday while averaging 21.7 points, 7.2 rebounds, 5.1 steals and 4.3 assists per game while shooting 55 percent from the field. The reigning 2012 Michigan Class B state champs, Goodrich is 22-3 on the season and a perfect 14-0 in the Genesee Area Conference Red.
Livingston led Morton to the IHSA Class 3A state semifinal game, where they fell to eventual state champion Quincy Notre Dame before finishing fourth. She also was named a first-team Class 3A All-State selection by the Associated Press, in addition to her honors by the Tribune.
