She scored 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting (66.7 percent), grabbed six rebounds, tallied a career-high six assists, blocked four shots and collected three steals. The four blocks give her 43 for the season, making her the program leader for blocks by a freshman. The old record of 39 was shared by current Illini seniors Jenna Smith and Lacey Simpson, who have gone one to rank 1-2 on the UI career blocks list, respectively.
The four Freshman of the Week Awards this season is tied for the most in the conference along with Iowa's Jamie Printy. Penn was also recognized on Nov. 23, Dec. 7 and Jan. 4.
Penn and the Fighting Illini will now head to the Big Ten Tournament March 4-7 in Indianapolis to try to earn the Big Ten's automatic NCAA Tournament bid. Illinois will be the No. 9 seed and will face No. 8 seed Indiana the third and final game on Thursday (approx. 4:30 p.m. ET).
