This semester, junior Lacey Simpson will be writing a weekly blog to keep Fighting Illini fans up to date on what's going on behind the scenes. In this week's installment of "Lacing Up," Simpson talks about this Sunday's Pink Zone game and working her first men's game on Wednesday night.

The sky is cloudy, the wind is blowing, its cold and to top it all off its raining. (UGH) Where did all of the sunshine go???
Well everyone if you haven't heard the news we weren't so successful in Sunday's game against Purdue. But the best part about the situation is that it's in the past and that this Sunday we have our last home game against Penn St.!!!
I'm so excited for this game for soooo many reasons. First of all, it will be our last opportunity of the season to play at home in front of all our fans in Assembly Hall.
Secondly, it's our "Pink Zone" game in which we get to wear our cool pink shoes and jerseys to support the awareness of breast cancer. I'm proud to support that cause because I have an aunt by the name of Pauline Redd who's currently fighting her own battle with breast cancer. (Stay strong aunty, we are all praying for you).
Lastly, it is senior day. It will be the last time that Chelsea Gordon will get to step onto the floor of Assembly Hall. It will be great to see her get acknowledged for her wonderful fours years spent as not only a great athlete but a great student and friend as well. Spending four years with her, I have seen her grow and mature into an intelligent young woman and I know that she will be successful in whatever she sets her heart out to do in the future. So, on that note, everyone grab a friend or two, a pink shirt, and get ready to cheer us to a victory on Sunday against Penn St!!!!!
Oh yea, if you're going to the men's game tonight be sure to look out for me cause I will be there cheering and working with the Public Relations Department for my internship. I'm sorry to say that this will be the first game of the season that I will be attending (sorry guys, but we've had our own business to take care of) and I'm soooo excited to see them play. So good luck guys, bring home another WIN!!!!
Go Illini!
