This semester, junior Lacey Simpson will be writing a weekly blog to keep Fighting Illini fans up to date on what's going on behind the scenes. In this week's installment of "Lacing Up," Simpson talks about being recognized for her hard work and looks ahead to the final stretch of the Big Ten season.

The sun is shinning, the snow has melted, and the birds are chirping...it's a beautiful day ☺. (Let's see how long this will last).
Yesterday I got some great news...I found out that I was Big Ten Player of The Week!!! (YAYYYY!!!) I was so excited to hear the news that I got on the phone to call my mom. She's so proud of me and it's always a great feeling to know that your mom is proud of you and smiling. At the end of the day I am here to help my family, to have better a future, to be a positive role model and to represent the University of Illinois in the most positive way I can. I am truly honored and very thankful to be recognized for my hard work. I hope that I can continue playing well and help us win games for the rest of the Big Ten season.
On another note....
We beat Indiana AGAIN on its home floor, which was a first for me since I've been here. I thought we played great team ball and held things together when it got tough. For the last few weeks we have finally been on the same page and we have a mutual understanding of what it takes to finish games, especially on the road. Everyone is stepping up and doing their parts and it's a good feeling to know that everyone has each other's back.
Northwestern will be yet another test for us, but we are more then prepared and ready for another victory. We want to finish with five more wins and I truly believe that if we continue to work together and play team ball no one in this conference can stop us. I believe in my teammates, I believe in my coaches and I believe in our fans ... and at the end of the day, that's all the motivation I need to compete and play this game.
This is OUR time ladies ... it starts now so let the games begin!!!
