This semester, junior Lacey Simpson will be writing a weekly blog to keep Fighting Illini fans up to date on what's going on behind the scenes. In this week's installment of "Lacing Up," Simpson talks about her road trip to Ohio over the weekend and her team coming together.

"Road Trip"
Rental Car (check)...Bags (check)...Phones Charged (check)...Directions (check)...All Gassed Up (check)...and I'm OFF!!! Yes everyone, this past weekend we had Saturday and Sunday off, so I hit the road to Oxford, Ohio, to see my BFF Ms. Antoinette V. Eldemire at Miami University. I had a long weekend of traveling throughout the state of Ohio. Saturday morning I had a flashback of getting up for my first morning practice (see blog #1 for details) because we had to be up at 5AM to hit the road to go to Cleveland, Ohio, for my BFF's club basketball game at Cleveland State.
The road trip took a total of eight hours - four hours to Cleveland and four hours back to Oxford. But I enjoyed sitting on the passenger side sipping on a french vanilla cappuccino and shuffling through the ipod to find the next song that Erin and Rindy (BFF's teammates) were going to shred to pieces with their vocal skills. (LOL) But the trip zoomed by with Antoinette putting the pedal to the metal. (Thank God for seatbelts).
The game was exciting to watch and they pretty much dominated the floor for both games, coming out with two victories and winning the tournament. Most of the time I sat back and watched how they interacted with each other. The way they communicated and helped each other out was a sight to see. It made me think about my team and how we've come together over the past few weeks. Being a part of a team is something that's very special and I appreciate the experiences that I have with my team at Illinois.
Although we've been through so many ups and downs this season, I'm glad that we are finally coming together as a TEAM. It's a good thing to know that when you step out on the court, your teammates have your back. We have two back-to-back wins and we are looking to go on a run before we get to the Big Ten Tournament. No one is expecting us to do it, but we aren't concerned with what others may think. I believe in my teammates and I know they believe in me.
Thursday's game against Michigan State will be another test for us, and Coach Law has us well-prepared. So let's do our part ladies and get it done!!! All we have to do is continue to believe in each other and the rest is history!!!!
Go Illini!
