Feb. 4, 2013
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The University of Illinois was named espnW's national team of the week, the organization announced Monday, after winning three games in the past seven days, including two on the road.
After losing two of its previous three games, the Illini won at Minnesota on Monday, Jan. 28, beat No. 24 Iowa at the Assembly Hall and gutted out an eight-point win at Wisconsin on Sunday. The victory over the Badgers tied the school record for Big Ten road wins and marked the first time in school history that an Illinois team had won five consecutive Big Ten road games in the same season.
The Illini play their second-straight road game on Thursday when they travel to Michigan for a 6 p.m. tilt with the Wolverines, who are receiving votes in this week's Associated Press poll. A live video stream will be available on the Big Ten Digital Network on Fighting Illini All-Access.
