Throughout the season, select Illinois women's basketball players will reveal what life is like behind the scenes in a periodic Women's BasketBlog. In the fifth installment of the season Danyel Crutcher speaks some Spanish and talks about the big games coming up down the stretch for the Illini.

Hola Amigos, ¿Que tal? For those who have no idea what I said, I gave a simple, Hi friends, how's it going, in Spanish. Yeah I'm taking Spanish this semester so I'm trying to speak as much of it as I can, so it can stay fresh in my mind. So yeah, it's going to be an interesting semester for me, not to mention my teammates. There are random times when I yell out Spanish phrases in practice to ensure that I stay on top of my game. I just want to make sure that I share the Spanish love with my teammates.
On to more important things... it's the month of February, and it's filled with exciting events including my mother's birthday. This is the beginning of the second half of the Big Ten season. We have 7 games left, including 5 against ranked opponents, which makes this our toughest stretch, but defiantly our most exciting. It's the time of the year that determines the future of our season. This is where the 5 am workouts, the lifting and individual workouts pay off. In crunch time, we see what we are made of and how tough we are physically, and, most importantly, mentally. We haven't made it to the big dance in a few years; therefore, it's time for the Orange and Blue to make some much needed noise.
Well fans, it has been real and I enjoyed the valuable time we have spent together. I'm sure I'll do this again sometime in the near future. PLEASE, PLEASE come out to Assembly and support us in the fight to the NCAA tournament. Remember, it's us against the world, and the more we have to fight, the stronger battle we fight.
