Big Crowd Expected for Paper the Hall This Sunday
Feb. 6, 2007 CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The University of Illinois Division of Intercollegiate Athletics and the Champaign News-Gazette have joined forces in an effort to "Paper the Hall" for the Feb. 11 women's basketball game between Illinois and nationally-ranked Ohio State at Assembly Hall. Free tickets are still available to all fans for the game, which begins at 2 p.m. Reserved tickets are available for A section, while B and C section will be general admission. Tickets are available for pickup now at the locations listed at the bottom of the page. As of Feb. 5, over 8,000 tickets had been distributed for the event. "I'm excited about the `Paper the Hall' promotion," said Illinois head coach Theresa Grentz. "The fans have been wonderful and this will present an even greater opportunity for the community to come out and support our young ladies. We look forward to seeing everyone there and cheering us on to victory over the defending Big Ten Champions." The first 4,000 fans will receive orange `Go Illini' poster cards at the entrances and there will be an autograph session after the game with the team. Additionally, there will be a drawing for several prizes, including an autographed basketball, a Nike basketball jersey and a Valentine's Day package for two among others. National Girls and Women in Sports Day will also be recognized at the game, with other UI women's athletic teams on hand. "We wanted our outstanding basketball community to come out in numbers and create an awesome home court advantage for our game against Ohio State," said Assistant Director of Athletics Chris Hanna. "We are very thankful to the News-Gazette for stepping up to sponsor `Paper the Hall,' making it free to all of our fans. When a large number of coupons or free tickets are used to build attendance for an event, it is said to be `papered.' The fact that the News-Gazette is sponsoring the event, combined with the poster card distribution, is why we are calling it `Paper the Hall.' The Fighting Illini are currently in fourth place with a 6-4 Big Ten record and a 16-6 overall mark. Ohio State, meanwhile, is ranked No. 4 in the Feb. 5 Associated Press poll and is alone atop the Big Ten with a 9-0 conference record. Fans can pick up their free tickets at the following locations:
