CHICAGO (AP) - Sophomore Amber Moore led four Illini in double-figures, but it wasn't enough as Illinois upset bid against No. 15 Texas Tech fell short Saturday afternoon at the United Center.
Illinois trailed by just four at the break, 27-23, despite shooting 19.4 percent, thanks to stout defense and 13 offensive rebounds. The Illini stayed within striking distance for most of the second half and pulled within four, 55-51, after back-to-back threes by Moore with 4:13 left. However, that would be as close as illinois (4-6) would get.
Christine Hyde scored 18 points to lead Texas Tech (9-0). The Lady Raiders made 25 of 35 free throws to hang on and remain undefeated.
The Illini will now travel to Las Vegas for Holiday Hoops Classic on Dec. 19-20. They'll face Montana State on Monday, Dec. 19, at 3 pm CT, before battling Dayton on Tuesday, Dec. 20 at 3 pm CT.
