Four to Compete at USA Junior World Trials

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Four Illinois men's track and field athletes will compete at the USA Junior Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The USA Junior's will be held from Friday, June 15 through Sunday, June 17 in Bloomington, Ind., at Robert C. Haugh Track and Field Complex. The meet will serve as a qualifier for this year IAAF World Junior Championships. Top performers will be a part of the American team that will compete in Barcelona, Spain from July 10-July 15.
"We're excited about the young guys in our program," head coach Mike Turksaid. "They have done a great job acclimating to the collegiate system and environment. This is an opportunity for them to gain some additional national and possibly international competitive experience."
Nathan Loe will kick off action for the Illini on Friday as he competes in the hammer throw at 1:00 p.m. CT, followed by Brandon Stryganek in the 100m at 2:40 p.m., with the final of the event starting at 5:50 p.m. Joe McAsey will also compete for the Illini on Friday, running the 800m at 4:30 p.m. Saturday's competition for the Orange and Blue doesn't begin until 5:10 p.m. as Branden Tanthavongis entered in the triple jump. The final of the 800m starts at 5:30 p.m. while Stryganek wraps up competition in the 200m first round, beginning at 6:05 p.m. If Stryganek is the top in his heat or one of the next five best times in the 200m prelim, he will run in the final on Sunday at 3:05 p.m.
