NCAA Outdoor Championships

Eleven Illini men's track and field athletes in three events will head to Eugene, Ore., for the 2013 NCAA Outdoor Championships from June 5-8 at Heyward Field. The Orange and Blue will be represented in sprints, distance and both 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams.
Two Illini will compete in the 400m at the NCAA Championships, including junior Stephon Pamilton and freshman Juan Paul Green. Pamilton finished fourth in his heat with a time of 46.63. The time ranks 20th coming into the national meet. The junior also won the Big Ten Championships in the event, placed fourth in the 200m and was part of the runner-up 4x400m relay team, totaling 22 points for the Illini. Earlier in the year, Pamilton's lifetime best time of 46.00 was set at the LSU Alumni Gold Meet and ranks seventh in school history.
Also competing in the national meet for the first time is Green. The freshman clocked a time of 46.64 at the NCAA West Prelims to advance to Eugene. Green set his personal best time in the event during the prelims, crossing the finish line with the 12th overall time of 46.63. Green is one of six freshman in the field of 24 while the duo of Pamilton and Green is one of four schools to advance more than one athlete in the 400m.
Pamilton will also run the third leg of the 4x100m relay, which will compete at nationals for the fourth year in a row. The team of junior Julian Smith, sophomore Brandon Stryganek, Pamilton and sophomore DJ Zahnfinished third in their heat at the NCAA West Preliminary Round with a time of 39.83, giving them an automatic bid and the No. 14 seed at the national meet. Last season, the relay advanced to the finals to earn first-team All-America honors for second straight season.
The 4x400m relay squad won their heat at the NCAA West Prelims in a time of 3:05.33, which comes in as the sixth fastest. The relay look to place at the NCAA Championships for the first time since 1994 when the crew of Dorian Green, Anthony Jones, Ben Beyers and Scott Turner finished fourth.
Senior Hunter Mickowearned his first trip to nationals in the 10,000m by finishing in seventh in the event with a time of 30:10.93. His time ranks 19th out of the 24 entrants. He is the first Illini to qualify for the NCAA Championships in the event since 2007 when Trent Hoer achieved the feat. Mickow scored points at the Big Ten meet for the second consecutive year, placing seventh this season.

Friday and Saturday's events will also be televised on ESPNU in a window beginning at 6:30 p.m. (Fri) and 4:00 p.m. (Sat). Advanced to nationals in the 10,000m for the first-time in career... Notched an automatic bid from the NCAA West Preliminary Round with a time of 29:20.45, and is seeded 19th overall at the national meet ... It is the first Illini to qualify in the 10,000m at the NCAAs since 2007 when Trent Hoer achieved the feat ... Scored points for the Illini in the 10K at the Big Ten Championships for the second-consecutive year, placing seventh this year ... Ran a lifetime best time of 29:20.45 at the Mt. SAC Relays which ranks eighth-best in school history.
