PARK RIDGE, Ill. - Senior Andrew Riley was tabbed Big Ten Co-Track Athlete of the Week along with Wisconsin's Mohammed Ahmed, announced the conference office. The Kingston, Jamaica, native ran to his first collegiate Penn Relays championship in the 110m hurdles and ran the lead leg in the 4x100m relay team which finished fifth at the meet.
Riley recorded the fastest prelims time of 13.63 in the 110m hurdles and followed up that performance by timing 13.55 in the finals to win the event. The senior then ran the lead leg of the 4x100m relay team along with freshman Brandon Stryganek, junior Josh Zinzer and senior Stanely Azie as the Illini set the fastest prelims time of 39.94, the only team to run under 40 seconds. The quartet, which currently holds the quickest relay time in the Big Ten, set at LSU's Battle on the Bayou, timed 39.78 at the Penn Relays to take fifth place, just off their conference leading time of 39.77. Riley's accolade is the fourth outdoor track weekly award of his career and the third Illini to earn the honor this outdoor campaign as Riley picked up the award a few weeks ago. The Illini's three track outdoor honors are the most of any Big Ten school during the spring season.
Up Next: The Illini are off this weekend in preparation for the Big Ten Outdoor Championships held in Madison, Wis., next weekend, May 11-13.
