Illini Begin Outdoor Season in Louisville

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- The Illinois men's track and field team will be back in action this weekend when they begin the outdoor season at the Lenny Lyles/Clark Wood Invitational. The meet will take place in Louisville, Ky. on March 28-29. Illinois is currently ranked No. 25 in the nation in the USTFCCCA preseason rankings.

Davis Fraker will kick off the meet for the Illini on Friday in the hammer throw beginning at 2:30 p.m. CT. He will then join teammate Brandon Noe in the shot put later in the afternoon. Noe will start the day on Saturday in the discus at 9:30 a.m., followed by Cody Klein, Blaze Galardy and Brandon Carrel in the pole vault at 11:00. At noon, Corey Hammon, David Kendziera and George Wayda will compete in the long jump, while Ryan Michel starts the high jump competition at 12:30 p.m. Ben Dodds will make his season debut at 2:00 in the javelin, while Brandon Tanthavong will compete in the triple jump at 2:45 in the last field event of the day for the Illini.

Illinois will compete in the 4x100m relay for the first time this season as Stephon Pamilton, DJ Zahn, Brandon Stryganek and Julian Smith will run the event at 12:05 p.m. CT on Saturday. Senior Graham Morris will make his season debut alongside teammate Jannis Toepfer in the 3,000m steeplechase at 12:30 p.m., while defending conference champion Vanier Joseph will compete in the 110m hurdles at 1:55 p.m. He'll be joined by teammates Cam Viney, Corey Hammon and George Wayda. Shortly after, Pamilton, Zahn, Stryganek and Smith will compete in the 100m dash.

Jordan Hebert, Ian Barnett, Will Brewster and Garrett Lee will run the 1,500m at 1:35 p.m., followed by Zebo Zebe and Josh Jones in the 400m at 1:50. Joe McAsey is coming off of a runner-up finish in the 600m at the Big Ten Indoor Championships and will compete in the 800m on Saturday. He'll join teammates Malik Lee and Liam Markham in the event at 2:30 p.m. Cam Viney and David Kendziera will compete in the 400m hurdles at 2:50 p.m., followed by six Illini in the 200m at 3:10 p.m. Big Ten scorers Stephon Pamilton, Brandon Stryganek and DJ Zahn will compete alongside teammates Kenneth Allen, Zebo Zebe and Julian Smith in the event. Hebert, Barnett and Markham will compete in the 5,000m at 3:40, while two 4x400m relay teams will compete in the final race of the day at 4:05 p.m.
