CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- Sophomore Joe McAsey has been named Big Ten Co-Track Athlete of the Week along with Ohio State's Demoye Bogle, the conference office announced Monday. The Minooka, Ill., native won the 600m title at the Illini Open on Saturday.

After missing all of last season with an injury, McAsey competed in his first race in 18 months, winning the 600m title with a personal-best time of 1:19.80. His time is the fastest 600m time in the nation this season, and ranks just outside Illinois' all-time top-10 list.

This is the first time McAsey has been named Big Ten Track Athlete of the Week in his career. The last Illini to earn indoor conference honors was Andrew Riley on Feb. 13, 2012.

McAsey and the Illini will be back in action this weekend when they host on Illini Classic on Jan. 17-18.
