Freshman Cameron Viney qualified for the semifinals of the 400m hurdles at the USA Outdoor Championships with a time of 51.75.

DES MOINES, Iowa -- On the first day of the USA Outdoor Senior Championships, freshman Cameron Viney highlighted the Illini action as he qualified for the semifinals of the 400m hurdles. Senior Graham Morris and freshman Mitch Mammoser also competed for the Orange and Blue on Thursday.
In the prelims of the event, Viney crossed the finish line with a time of 51.75. The time is the second best this season and ranks 14th overall. He is one of four collegians to advance to the semifinals of the event which will take place tomorrow evening at 7:04 p.m. Johnny Dutch of Nike took the top qualifying time of 49.46.
Also competing in the senior division on Thursday was Morris in the 1,500m. The senior finished with a time of 3:47.24 and will not advance to the final on Saturday. In the junior division, Mammoser competed in the pole vault. Mammoser tied for eighth in the event with a mark of 15-11 (4.85m).
