EUGENE, Ore. - The Fighting Illini men's track and field team finished day one of the NCAA Outdoor Championships on Wednesday with Joe McAsey earning second-team All-America honors. Illinois will be represented in two events tomorrow, as Brandon Stryganek and the 4x400m Relay are set for semifinal action.

Joe McAsey placed 14th in the 800m after clocking a time of 1:49.67. For his efforts, the sophomore earned second-team All-America honors for the first time in his career. DJ Zahn represented the Illini in the 400m and finished 22nd with a time of 47.30, while Cam Viney competed in the 400m hurdles and crossed the finish line with a time of 53.09 to place 22nd.

Illinois will resume action at the NCAA Championships on Thursday in two events. Brandon Stryganek will race in the 200m semifinal at 6:00 p.m. CT, while the 4x400m relay semifinal is set for an 8:20 p.m. start . Both Stryganek and the relay team enter the national meet with No. 12 seeds, the highest seed for the Illini. Thursday's events will be streamed on ESPN3.com/WatchESPN.
