Friday Sea Ray Results | Mt. SAC Steeplechase Results

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Junior Kyle Engnell shined in the 3,000m steeplechase on Thursday night at the Mt. SAC Relays while junior Andrew Riley highlighted Friday's competition at the Sea Ray Relays with a victory in the 110m hurdles. Engnell clocked the sixth-fastest time (8:48.45) in UI history during his runner-up performance at the prestigious meet, and Riley won the event crown with a mark of 13.63.

"It was a tough day with the weather in Tennessee, but I am pleased with the way our guys competed," interim head coach Mike Turk said. "Kyle did an outstanding job on Thursday at the Mt. SAC Relays. He ran competitively and was rewarded with a big personal best. We sent him out there for a fast race, and I am sure there is more to come from Kyle."

The Illini also posted four other runner-up finishes and received a victory from freshman Zebo Zebe in the unseeded section of the 800m (1:53.36). Azie timed a season-best mark of 21.12 to take second in 200m, and Wisslead turned in a solid performance for the second week in a row and crossed the line second in the 400m hurdles with a season-best time of 51.19. Sophomore Jim Riddle notched a personal-best time of 14:29.82 in the 5,000m while sophomore Nathan Troester was the final Illini runner-up with a time of 30:41.79 in the 10,000m.

Sophomore Ryan Lynn took third in the 800m invitational with a time of 1:52.11 while sophomore Joshua Hodur cleared a height of 16-0 ¾ (4.90m) to place third in the open division of the pole vault. Sophomore Phil Pompei also had a top-five finish after timing 30:50.54 in the 10,000m to take fourth.

The Sea Ray Relays will conclude on Saturday with the relay competition on the track along with five field events, including the pole vault invitational, high jump, long jump, hammer throw and javelin.
