CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The Illinois men's track and field squad tallied four first-place finishes and five second-place finishes in eight different events at the Mark Colligan Memorial Invitational in the Bob Devaney Sports Center. Illinois finished second at the meet totaling 143.50 points, while Nebraska took first with 152.50.

Senior Andrew Riley took home two titles in the 60m and 60m hurdles for the second consecutive week, resetting his Illinois school record in the 60m dash, clocking a 6.70 in the prelims then won the event in a time of 6.72 and a winning time of 7.76 in the hurdles. Two more Illini finished first; including sophomore Ryan Lynn notching a personal-best 1:19.74 in the 600m while senior Kyle Engnell timed 4:11.77 in the mile.

"Overall we made a pretty good run at Nebraska for the team title," head coach Mike Turk said. "Our guys are competing. I like the attitude of this team. They don't get too high after a win or personal best and they take it hard when they fall short of their goals. That's a great combination for a team to have as it looks to improve."

After winning the 200m race last weekend, senior Stanley Azie finished second in the 60m with a personal-best time of 6.80 while freshman Joe McAsey finished runner-up in the 600m in a time of 1:20.17. In the 3,000m senior Phil Pompei took second with a career-best time of 8:10.34, a time that ranks sixth in Illinois indoor history. Senior Jim Riddle finished third with a new personal-record time of 8:13.51.

"The one-two finish by Lynn and McAsey was terrific," Turk said. "Both guys ran personal records and are showing well as the season progresses. Lynn has really been stepping up for us this year. Pompei ran a huge race today. He's worked so hard and it's nice to see it paying off for him."

In the field events, Cody Klein tied for second in the pole vault, with a mark of 16-2 (4.93m) while Branden Tanthavong finished runner-up in the triple jump with a jump of 47-7 ¼ (14.51m). In the weight throw, junior Brett Ramirez's 59-2 ¼ mark ranks fifth all-time in the Illinois indoor record books. Ramirez finished fifth in the event.

Next weekend, the Illini will host their last indoor event as it hosts the Orange and Blue meet at the UI Armory on Saturday, Feb. 4. The field events begin at 10 a.m. CT with the running events starting at Noon.
