Champaign, Ill. - CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The Fighting Illini men's cross county team continues its racing season this Saturday, Oct. 7 at the Saluki Invitational in Carbondale, Ill., where it will go up against an 11-team field.
The Orange and Blue will not be competing as an entire squad, but instead will give some of their athletes some much needed racing experience. Head coach Wendel McRaven says that this meet will help determine who will race at the Pre-NCAA Invitational meet, which will take place next Saturday, Oct. 14 in Terre Haute, Ind.
"It is a great opportunity to see where these guys stack up," said Coach McRaven. "Even though this is not our top team, I think we will still compete very strongly in the meet."
For the second week in a row the Orange and Blue were ranked No. 7 among all NCAA Division I teams in Illinois, Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma in the United States Cross Country Coaches Association Midwest Region poll.
Racing action this weekend begin with the women's 5K race at 10 a.m., followed by the men's 8K race at 10:45 a.m. at SIU's cross country course in Carbondale, Ill.
