Kennedy Earns a Spot on U.S. World Team

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- Former Illinois wrestler Jimmy Kennedy competed at the Phase II World Team Trials in Fargo, North Dakota late last week and landed a spot on the U.S. World Team after winning the 61 kg/134 lbs. title.
The Ingleside, Illinois, native squared off against 2012 Olympic bronze medalist Coleman Scott at the event, winning the first match in a 4-2 decision and the second by a 10-0 tech. fall. With the win, Kennedy earns a spot on the U.S. World Team and will travel to the World Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan in September.
Kennedy joins Nick Marable (70 kg/ 154 lbs.), Jordan Burroughs (74 kg/163 lbs.), Tony Ramos (57 kg/125.5 lbs.), Brent Metcalf (65 kg/143 lbs.), Ed Ruth (86 kg/189 lbs.), Jake Varner (97 kg/213 lbs.) and Tervel Dlagnev (125 kg/275 lbs.) on the U.S. World Team in freestyle.
