CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- The Amateur Wrestling News announced their first team freshman All-America receipients as Illinois' Caleb Ervin was selected at 149 pounds.

"We are all really happy and proud of Caleb, and the recognition is well deserved," head coach Jim Heffernan said. "Making the AWN all rookie team is always an honor and historically a pretty good indication of future success. "

Ervin was the full time starter at 149 pounds for the Illini, posting a 22-14 record and received an at-large bid to the 2013 NCAA Championships. The Morganfield, Ky., native also earned a spot on the podium at the Big Ten Championships, placing eighth. During the year, Ervin defeated 2013 Big Ten champion and 2012 NCAA runner-up Dylan Ness of Minnesota. It was Ness' only conference loss of the year.

Joining Ervin on the All-Freshman team were Nahshon Garrett of Cornell (125), Cody Brewer of Oklahoma (133), Ugi Khishigynam of The Citadel (141), Alex Dieringer of Oklahoma State (157), Taylor Massa of Michigan (165), Cody Walters of Ohio (174), Ryan Wolfe of Rider (184), Nathan Burak of Iowa (197) and Connor Medbery of Wisconsin (HWT).
