University of Illinois freshman wrestler Kyle Ott shined at his first two freestyle tournaments of the summer by winning the 55 kg weight class at the University National Championships in Evanston, Ill. and taking the 54 kg title at the FILA Junior World National Championships in Chattanooga, Tenn.

Ott, a redshirt-freshman from Huber Height, Ohio, defeated Nick Simmons of Williamstown, Mich., in the championship match of University Nationals on May 2 and followed up that performance with a tech fall win over Austin DeVoe of the Dave Schultz Wrestling Club last weekend at the Junior Worlds.

Freshman Peter Friedl was also a placewinner in Chattanooga after taking eighth at 85 kg. The Orland Park-native injury forfeited the seventh-place match for his final eighth-place finish.

In other competition at the University National Championships, junior Jason Potter (St. Charles, Ill.) took fifth over Tony Gansen of Central Michigan at 84 kg, while senior Joe Paun (South Holland, Ill.) placed third in the Greco Roman division at 74 kg by a 7-0 decision over Joespeh Manzello of Marquette, Mich.
