    NCAA Heavyweight national champion John Lockhart earns Academic All-American honors as well

    University of Illinois wrestler John Lockhart and gymnast Leo Oka were named to the 2000-01 Verizon/CoSIDA Academic All-America second team, as announced Tuesday afternoon.

    Lockhart, a junior from Mahomet, Illinois, has a 3.45 grade point average in pre-medicine. He also earned the 2001 national heavyweight title at the NCAA Tournament in March. For the season, Lockhart was 32-7 overall with six pins. Along with his NCAA championship, Lockhart finished second at the Big Ten Championships. Lockhart was one of only three wrestlers named to the team.

    Oka has a 3.60 GPA in Illinois' nationally ranked business administration program. He earned his second straight All-American honor in the all-around with his sixth-place finish at the NCAA Championships this season. He was a finalist for the Nissen-Emery Award given to the nation's best collegiate gymnast and qualified for NCAA event finals on the still rings, finishing seventh overall.
