CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - No. 6 Illinois will host No. 3 Minnesota Friday at 7 p.m. at Huff Hall in the fourth-annual "Great Escape," the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics announced Wednesday. The Illini look to improve on their 10-1 overall season record and knock off the Gophers who are currently tied for first place in the Big Ten.
As they have for all home duals this season, fans will receive free admission, and the first 800 people through the Huff Hall doors will receive free food with doors opening at 6 p.m. The Illini starters will throw T-shirts to the crowd during the introduction of starting lineups and fans can also stop by the promotions table to have their face painted and sign up to win a number of great prizes which will be given away at different points throughout the dual.
Then on Sunday, Jan. 22, the team will host Youth Day as they take on conference foe, Michigan State. Fans 8th grade and younger are invited to take part in a youth clinic from 12:30-1:30 at Huff Hall. Kids will learn from the best as they are instructed by select Illinois coaches and wrestlers. In addition, all fans may purchase a $10 package for the event that includes an Illinois wrestling t-shirt, a hot dog and a water. Orders must be placed by this Thursday, Jan. 12 and may be made by calling Carrie Snyder at 217-333-6969. To conclude the afternoon, fans have the opportunity to pick up team posters and meet the team at an autograph session directly following the dual.
The Illini are led by No. 5 Jesse Delgado at 125 pounds, fifth-ranked B.J. Futrell at 133 pounds and No. 10 Eric Terrazas at 149 pounds. Delgado is 21-2, while Futrell and Terrazas have posted a 17-3 mark to this point. 174-pounder Jordan Blanton has also found great success this season, going 16-2.
