CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- The University of Illinois Fighting Illini wrestling team will hold a support drive to benefit the Eastern Illinois Foodbank at Friday's 7 p.m. dual against Purdue. Fans are encouraged to donate food to assist the foodbank in serving the hungry in 14 counties in Eastern Illinois. Canned goods will be collected throughout the match at the marketing table at the North end of Huff Hall and the first 100 people to donate will receive a free T-shirt. Admission to the match is free.
"Our continued effort to assist Eastern Illinois Foodbank is something that has become very important to our program and has an immediate impact in our community," head coach Jim Heffernan said. "Jim Hires, a big Illini wrestling fan, and the director of the foodbank provide an invaluable service to those in need. It is our hope to assist them in their effort to supply those in need of this most basic need."
In addition to the food drive, Illinois wrestling welcomes all local school and club teams for team night. For more information, contact Melissa Emkes at email@example.com.
Also, be sure to pick up your Ultimate Fan Punch Card at all entrances of Huff Hall prior to the dual or at the promotions table for your chance to win a free hotdog and drink at the Big Ten Championships. If Illini fans attend and punch their card at all four home duals, they will be able to redeem their prize at the concession stands in Assembly Hall.
Illini fans are also reminded to stick around after the dual is over for your chance to get team autographs.
The Illini will host the 2013 Big Ten Championships at the Assembly Hall on March 9-10. This year's championship marks just the ninth time Illinois has hosted the conference championships, welcoming the conference's best first in 1930 and following with events in 1933, 1946, 1958, 1966, 1991 and 2002.
