Eighth-seeded Jordan Blanton fell in his consolation quarterfinal match, meaning he will wrestle for seventh place this afternoon at the Las Vegas Invitational.

LAS VEGAS - Eighth-seeded Jordan Blanton (184) and 10th-seeded Ryan Prater (141) dropped into the seventh-place matches in their respective brackets after falling in the consolation quarterfinals at the 27th Annual Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational Saturday. Blanton fell, 6-1, to Cal State Fullerton's Tim Hawkins, while Prater was pinned by Virginia Tech's 13th-seeded Chris Diaz. The seventh-place matches will begin at approximately 2:30 p.m. (CT) after the completion of the ongoing consolation semifinals.
Prater started fast and held on late against Casey Thome (Army) to advance to the consolation quarterfinals. In the round of 8, Prater took on 13th-seeded Chris Diaz (Virginia Tech). Diaz scored a takedown 1:20 into his bout with the Illini and added a two-point near-fall with a minute left in the period for a 4-0 lead after three minutes. Prater went down to start the second and Diaz was able to turn him in 33 seconds for the fall at 3:33, pushing Prater into the seventh-place match.
Blanton fired out against Hinebauch, scoring a takedown and a two-point near-fall in the first minute. Hinebauch escaped, but Blanton notched another takedown 15 seconds later. After another Hinebauch escape, the Bobcat scored his lone takedown of the match, but Blanton escaped before the buzzer for a 7-4 lead after a period. The only scoring in the second period came on a Blanton escape after the Illini started down, then the pair started neutral in the third and Blanton got a takedown eight seconds in. Hinebauch escaped, but Blanton recorded a final takedown with four seconds left in the bout for the major decision.
Blanton took on Tim Hawkins (Cal State Fullerton), who lost his first bout and is attempting to wrestleback the entire bracket. After a scoreless first period, Blanton chose down in the second and escaped for a 1-0 lead. Hawkins went down to start the third and scored a reversal 45 seconds into the period, then cradled Blanton for a three-point near-fall. After adding the riding-time point, Hawkins took the 6-1 win, knocking Blanton into the seventh-place match.
Twelfth-seeded B.J.Futrell gave third-seeded and ninth-ranked Marcos Orozco a tough match in the consolation round of 12, but in the end Orozco escaped with an 8-6 win. Futrell took an early lead on a takedown 1:14 into the bout, but Orozco escaped before scoring a takedown and a penalty point as time expired for a 4-2 lead. Orozco started down in the second and escaped, but Futrell made it a one-point match with a takedown. Orozco was awarded a point for an illegal hold, though, giving him a 6-4 advantage after two periods. The pair started neutral in the third and Orozco scored the clinching takedown 16 seconds in. Futrell got a reversal with 30 seconds left but was unable to turn the Aggie for back points as he fell, 8-6, and was eliminated.
