John Dergo upset Nebraska's No. 10-ranked Brandon Browne, 5-2, to advance to tomorrow's semifinal round.

LAS VEGAS - Illinois stands in fifth place, three Fighting Illini qualified for the semifinals and four more remain alive in the wrestleback bracket after session two at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational at the Las Vegas Convention Center. Junior All-American second-seeded Mike Poeta (157), fifth-seeded John Dergo (174) and fourth-seeded Patrick Bond (197) need to win just two matches on Saturday to take home titles, while fifth-seeded Gabe Flores (125), fifth-seeded Troy Tirapelle (141), and 11th-seeded John Wise (HWT) dropped their quarterfinal matches but remain alive in wrestlebacks, as does true-freshman Grant Paswall (149).
Poeta took care of No. 15 and seventh-seeded Zac Fryling (West Virginia) to set up a rematch with third-seeded Craig Henning (Wisconsin), whom Poeta pinned at the NWCA All-Star Classic two weeks ago. Dergo earned a 5-2 decision over Nebraska's No. 10 and fourth-seeded Brandon Browne. He will face top-seeded Keith Gavin of Pittsburgh on Saturday.
Bond also wrestled well in his quarterfinal match, earning a 9-3 win over North Carolina's Dennis Drury. He will wrestle top-seeded and No. 7 Max Askren (Missouri) on Saturday.
Flores and Tirapelle each fell in their quarterfinal bouts, with Flores dropping an 8-4 decision to Missouri's Tony Pescaglia and Tirapelle losing 6-5 to Michigan's Kellen Russell in an extremely hard-fought match. Wise also dropped his quarterfinal match, losing a 16-6 major decision to Ohio State's third-seeded and fourth-ranked J.D. Bergman.
Continuing his fight through the wrestleback bracket was Paswall, who tripped up Navy's Bryce Saddoris, 7-2. He needs needs just one win on Saturday to assure himself of placing at the event. He faces eighth-seeded and No. 11 Morgan Atkinson from Cal State Fullerton.
The next round of wrestlebacks begins Saturday at 11 a.m. (CT), with the semifinal round beginning at noon.
