    CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- The sixth-ranked University of Illinois wrestling team defeated Ohio State 36-3, and Brown 31-6, Sunday afternoon at St. John Arena in Columbus, Ohio. The win over Ohio State marks the Illini's fifth consecutive dual victory over the Buckeyes. The last OSU win was during the 1993-94 season by a 24-6 count in Columbus. The Illini's win also knots the all-time series with the Bucks. Each team has won 27 duals and there has been one tie. With today's win, the Illini improved to 9-0 on the season and 2-0 in the Big Ten Conference.

    Against Ohio State, the Illini were paced by major decisions won in the 149-pound match and heavyweight match. The 149-pound match was won 12-4 by number two ranked Adam Tirapelle over Ohio State's Brian Roskovich. John Lockhart, ranked number four in the nation, beat Ohio State's Tony Sylvester 12-3. The 197-pound match proved to be the tightest of the evening. The Illini's Pat Quirk, ranked seventh in the country, edged the Buckeye's Nick Preston, ranked nineth, 1-0 in double overtime. The night's only upset was registered in the 125-pound class. Unranked Kore Sharpley of Ohio State upset the Illini's Ryan Escobar, ranked ninth, 4-2 in overtime.

    In the match against Brown, the Illini were led by wins in all classes except 133-pounds and heavyweight. Big wins include Chad Hay of Illinois in the 125-pound class beating Brown's Ryan Gill 17-0. Number seven Carl Perry of Illinois beat David Dies of Brown 13-6 in the 141-pound class, and number two Adam Tirapelle pinned Brown's Jason Mercado in the 149-pound class. The Illini's Griff Powell, Nate Patrick, and Pat Quirk all registered victories. Heavyweight Bronson Lingamfelter scored an upset against the Illini's John Lockhart 5-4 in overtime.

    Next up for the Illini will be the first of three consecutive home Big Ten duals. Illinois will host No. 10 Michigan at Huff Hall on January 28 then will square off with No. 15 Wisconsin (February 4) and No. 12 Michigan State (February 6) the following weekend.
