2001-2002: Qualified for first career NCAA tournament after placing fifth at Big Ten Championships with three wins, two losses and one fall ... Had a 3-2 record at the NCAAs ... Compiled a 5-3 record in Big Ten duals while upsetting No. 17 Tony Black of Wisconsin, 10-6, No. 15 Greg Shaefer of Indiana, 8-6, and No. 8 Luke Eustice of Iowa, 3-2 ... NORTHERN ILLINOIS: Compiled a 10-14 record as a sophomore wrestling at both 125 and 133 … Finished his freshman campaign with a 13-8 mark with fourth-place finishes at the Stevens Point Open and MAC Conference Championships … Named team’s Outstanding Freshman.
HIGH SCHOOL: Placed sixth at 119-pounds at the Illinois state championship meet as a senior, capping his four-year career with a 36-4 record … Earned Mid-Suburban League, regional and sectional titles … Ended his career with a school-record 431 takedowns, including 171 during a sophomore season … Began his junior season with a 12-1 mark before concentrating on work with the Palatine gymnastics squad … Qualified for the state championship meet twice in gymnastics, leaving with the school’s still rings record and the second-best parallel bars score … Won team MVP honors in both gymnastics and wrestling as a senior.
