Placed ninth in the Heptahlon at the Big Ten Indoor Championships...Placed fourth in the Heptahalon at the Health Alliance Classic.

Attended J.S. Morton West High School...Lettered all four years in track, two years in cross country, and two years in soccer...All-conference, and all-sectional in 110 high hurdles as well as 300 intermediate hurdles (chapmion in both events for both meets)...State qualifier as a Junior and Senior in the 300, and 110 hurdles...Third place at the 2003 USATF Junior Olympics in the decathlon...2004 USATF Junior Nationals qualifier in the decathlon...Gold Honor Roll Sophomore through Senior year...NHS member Junior and Senior year.

Full name given is Edward Callahan Mastny, but goes by "Ed","Big Ed", or "Moose"...Born February 19, 1985 in Chicago, Ill. to Frank and Diane Mastny...Has one older brother, Steve, one older sister, Anne, and one younger sister Nora...Hobbies include reading, running, lifting, listening to music, gardening, and enjoying life on as many levels as possible...Current activitiies include Assistant Scoutmaster and Eaglescout in Boyscout Troop 31...Majoring in Integrative Biology...Plans after finishing college include graduate school, continuing his track career, or just entering the work force...Most influential person in athletic career is "definately my high school track coach 'G'. He was always all about helping out those who wanted to work for it and he really gave me every ounce of his effort to make me as good as I could possible be. He was always there to make track fun for me, as well as, making it a worthwhile endeavor. I probably would not be in the position I am in now if it was not for 'G'." ... Favorite athlete is "Lance Armstrong, not only because he is a six-time champion of the Tour de France, the world's most grueling athletic event, but because of his amazing life story which lends inspiration to all who listen and believe."...Biggest thrill in sports is "The feeling of setting a personal record in any event while competing in a decathlon.
