AT ILLINOIS
2004 Outdoor:
Scored at the Big Ten Championships in the decathlon (eighth, 6,499 points) and javelin (eighth, 187'09.00") ... That decathlon was the first time ever he competed in the event ... Won the javelin at the May Invite where he also was fifth in the long jump, seventh in the shot put and tenth in the 400m ... Won the javelin at the TSU Relays, was fifth in the discus and eighth in the long jump ... Claimed fifth in the javelin at the Clemson Invitational.
2004 Indoor:
Set the school record in the weight throw with a toss of 60'04.00" to finish eighth at the Big Ten Championships ... First season throwing the weight ... Won the weight throw at the Illinois Open (58'09.50") and the Illinois Invitational (59'08.25") ... Was second in the weight throw at the EIU Friday Night Special (59'00.75") and the Wisconsin Elite Invite (57'06.25") ... Also competed at the ISU Earlybird Invitational, the Carle/Health Alliance Invitational and the Iowa State Classic.
2003 Outdoor:
Finished eighth at the Texas Relays in the javelin with a career-best throw of 204'07.00" ... That throw ranks third in school history ... Ranked among the top in the Big Ten in the event.
2003 Indoor:
Did not compete.
2002 Outdoor:
Season-best toss of 195'02.00" in the javelin came at the Florida Relays where he finished sixth ... Finished a season-best third at the May Twilight with a throw of 191'01.00" ... Competed at the Big Ten Championships.
2002 Indoor:
Did not compete.
2001 Outdoor
Threw in the first meet of the season at the Southern Illinois Quadrangular ... Won the event with a toss of 197-6 ... That throw was a career best for Knaus and moved him into sixth on Illinois' all-time javelin performance chart ... Missed the rest of the season after undergoing "Tommy John" surgery.
2000 season
Redshirted while improving strength and technique in the javelin.
High School:
Placed fifth in the javelin at the National Youth Games in
1999 with a throw of 179 feet ... Earned eight letters at Joliet West, four
each in track and cross country ... Competed in both the javelin and the
800m during the track season.
Personal:
Son of John and Bev Knaus ... Majoring in
business ... Lists golf as favorite sport besides track and field.
