    Bryan Carrel is entering his third season as a volunteer coach for Illinois' men's team and will work primarily with the pole vaulters. Carrel has spent five years as a volunteer assistant for the Illini men's program. During his coaching tenure, Carrel has helped coach a pair of NCAA qualifiers in the event, including Tom Marchese, who competed for Illinois at the 2001 NCAA Championships.

    Prior to his time at Illinois, Carrel enjoyed nine years in the coaching profession, spending eight seasons at Indiana State as a pole vault and jumps coach and one season at Central Michigan.

    A four-time national qualifier in the pole vault during his collegiate career at Indiana State, Carrel is still the ISU outdoor school record holder in the event and was ranked among the top pole vaulters in the country during both his prep and collegiate careers. Carrel is a 1996 graduate of Indiana State with a B.S. in education.

    Prior to his enrollment at Indiana State, Carrel spent four years with the United States Marine Corps and is a veteran of the Persian Gulf War. In addition to his coaching duties, Carrel is also a Technical Sales Representative for pole vault equipment for Gill Athletics.

    Carrel and his wife Lori have two sons, Brandon (11) and Tyler (4).
