BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Fighting Illini sophomore-to-be Farris Gosea captured the singles title at the 2012 USTA/ITA National Summer Championships Tuesday at Indiana University. With the win, the Cardiff, Wales, native earned a wild card to the main draw of the ITA All-American Championships, which will take place Oct. 4-7 at the University of Tulsa.

"Farris is making some changes to his game," Illinois head coach Brad Dancer said. "Hopefully this is a first step for him and some of that progress and that work is paying off for him. We're really happy for him. We've got some more work to do but are looking forward to a fun season."

Gosea knocked off each of his opponents in straight sets en route to the final, where he took down Indiana's Sam Monette, 7-6, 6-0, to claim the crown. The win guaranteed Gosea a spot in the ITA All-American Championships, which is the first ITA national competition of the 2011-12 collegiate season. Gosea follows 2011 champion Stephen Hoh as the second Illini to win the tournament in as many years.
