Incoming freshman Jared Hiltzik took third at the National Championships in Kalamazoo, Mich.

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Fighting Illini incoming freshman Jared Hiltzik finished third Saturday at United States Tennis Association Boys' National Tennis Championships. The Wilmette, Ill., native also took home the Sportsmanship Award to wrap up a stellar week in Kalamazoo, Mich.
Sixth-seeded Hiltzik cruised through his first four matches in straight sets, including a 6-1, 7-6(5) decision over ninth-seeded Spencer Papa. The No. 1-ranked recruit in the nation breezed past Shane Vinsant, 6-4, 6-2, in the quarterfinals before faltering in a 6-3, 7-6(5) battle with eighth-seeded Alexios Halebian in semifinal action. In the following round, Hiltzik took third on a walkover against an injured Noah Rubin.
