DELRAY BEACH, Fla. - Fighting Illini incoming freshman Jared Hiltzik played his way to the title match in both singles and doubles action last weekend at the United States Tennis Association Boys' 18 National Clay Court Championships, July 15-22 in Delray Beach, Fla. The final singles match was abandoned with Hiltzik leading George Goldhoff, 6-4, 3-1, and the final doubles match was canceled, both due to inclement weather.

"All in all, it was a great experience and a learning lesson," Hiltzik said. "I will take nothing but positives coming from this experience as I prepare for Team Cup and Kalamazoo."

Top-seeded Hiltzik, the No. 2-ranked incoming freshman in the nation, cruised to the singles championship with a quick two-setter over Martin Redlicki in semifinal action after taking a three-set thriller over No. 17 Grant Solomon. He also teamed up with Henry Craig to knock off seventh-seeded Brett Clark and Gordon Watson, 7-6, 6-4, in the doubles semifinal.
