Gonzales continues his productive 2013 with a doubles championship in Belgium this week

MIDDELKERKE-WESTENDE, Belgium - University of Illinois men's tennis alum Ruben Gonzales continues to have a productive 2013, winning a doubles championship this week along with his partner Darren Walsh of Great Britain. The duo won the Belgium F5 Futures tournament hosted in Middelkerke-Westende.
Gonzales and Walsh were the top seed in the tournament. In the semis, the combo ousted the three-seed Astorga/Peralta-Tello of Mexico, 6-4, 6-4. Then in the title match, Gonzales/Walsh defeated Blom/Meuffels 6-3, 3-6, 10-6.
"Another great win for Ruben," said Illinois head men's tennis coach Brad Dancer. "His persistence continues to pay off as he will reach a new career high next week."
Earlier this year, Gonzales produced a historic moment for the Philippines, helping the country defeat Thailand for the first time in 28 years. In addition, Gonzales won the USA F6 Futures doubles championship in Harlingen, Texas.
