CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The Illini men's tennis team has selected Georgia Tech as its site for the fourth annual Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Kick-Off Weekend, Jan. 29-30 at the Bill Moore Outdoor Tennis Center in Atlanta. Joining Illinois at the site will be North Carolina and Auburn.
The No. 1 team at each site will face the No. 4 team, while the No. 2 team will face the No. 3 team. Illinois checks in as the two seed and will face No. 3 North Carolina in the first round in a rematch of the NCAA second-round contest last month in Urbana. Top-seeded Georgia Tech, which finished at No. 13 in the final national rankings, will take on fourth-seeded Auburn. Each team is guaranteed two matches, as the two winners and losers from each match will square off the following day.
The 15 schools that win both of their matches at these events will then advance to the round of 16 of the ITA National Team Indoor Championship, held at the Boar's Head Sports Club in Charlottesville, Va., Feb. 17-20. National runner-up Virginia received an automatic bid for hosting the final rounds.
The top 15 nationally ranked teams in the final 2011 team rankings were chosen as host sites. The Illini finished at No. 17, which awarded them the first overall pick in the draft to select where they would play.
