    PARK RIDGE, Ill. - Illinois junior Dennis Nevolo was named Big Ten Athlete of the Week announced Tuesday by the conference office. The Gurnee, Ill., native collected three wins overall at No. 1 singles and doubles in helping lead the Illini to victories over Denver and Notre Dame in the opening rounds of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend. It is the first such honor of the season for Nevolo and fourth of his career.

    Nevolo, ranked a career-best No. 11 in the first national rankings of 2011, downed No. 25 Enej Bonin (Denver), 6-0, 6-1, before outlasting No. 104 Casey Watt (Notre Dame) the following night, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3. He now owns a team-best 17-6 mark in singles, with nine wins coming over nationally ranked opponents. In doubles, Nevolo teamed up with senior Johnny Hamui to knock off No. 47 Tyler Davis and Stephen Havens (Notre Dame), 8-1.

    Illinois continues its homestand this weekend beginning with No. 14 Duke on Friday at 6 p.m. at Atkins Tennis Center.
