| Qualifying Draw
URBANA, Ill. - Four Illini were victorious Saturday in the opening round of qualifying play at the JSM Challenger at Atkins Tennis Center. Current Illini KU Singh and former Orange and Blue Marek Czerwinski, Brian Livingston and Ryan Rowe collected wins to advance to the second round of the draw. Singh and Czerwinski each drew fellow Illini in the first round, but did not let it affect their play.
"It's a little difficult playing someone you know so well, but it also helps because you know each other's games and know what to expect," Czerwinski said. Singh agreed adding, "It's just another opponent and anything can happen."
Czerwinski topped sophomore Bruno Abdelnour, 7-5, 6-2, while Singh, making his tournament debut, defeated senior Connor Roth, 6-1, 6-4. Additionally, Rowe edged Max Gold, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 and Livingston downed Panav Jha, 6-4, 6-4.
"It's fun being able to play at Atkins again and to have family and friends come out to watch," Czerwinski said. "It definitely adds that extra adrenaline. I'm looking forward to my next match. It will be tough, but should be a lot of fun."
Highlighted matches for tomorrow include Rowe vs. Chase Buchanan (Court 1) at 10 a.m., followed by Johnny Hamui vs. Ryan Lipman and later in the afternoon, Singh vs. Luka Gregorc, Czerwinski vs. Pierre-Ludovic Duclos and Livingston vs. Andrew Anderson. The main draw will begin Monday, Nov. 15.
