TULSA, Okla. - University of Illinois sophomore Farris Gosea represented Illini tennis in the main draw of the ITA All-American Championships Thursday in Tulsa, Okla. The Cardiff, Wales, native lost in the main draw and consolation draw after earning a wild card to the tournament with a victory in the USTA/ITA National Summer Championships in mid-August.

"It was a tough day for Farris," head coach Brad Dancer said. "I think he is capable of performing better than he did today. He probably needs to be in these types of matches more often. We've got to find ways to do that. He earned this opportunity, and he needs to go to work on creating more opportunities for himself to play at this level."

Gosea dropped his first match in straight sets, falling to Clemson's Yannick Maden, who is ranked 32nd in the nation. In the back draw, he faced his second ranked opponent of the day, No. 60 Connor Smith of Ohio State. Gosea came up short after forcing a third set, taking a 6-0, 6-7(4), 6-1 loss to exit the tournament.
