CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The Illini men's tennis team captured one doubles and two singles matches on Sunday to wrap up the University of Virginia Ranked +1 Invite. Juniors Stephen Hoh and Bruno Abdelnour were each victorious in their singles matches and teamed up to secure their first doubles win of the fall season.
In singles play, Abdelnour claimed a convincing 6-4, 6-4 victory over George Washington's Francisco Dias to capture third place in his bracket. Hoh won a straight-set victory as well, as the Australia native returned to his winning ways to sweep East Tennessee State's Roger Ordeig, 7-5, 6-2. Abdelnour and Hoh also had success in doubles action, as the duo claimed an 8-5 victory over George Washington tandem Dias and Ugur Atalay.
After going 3-0 and taking down a top-25 opponent in the first two days of the tournament, senior Roy Kalmanovich failed to knock off his second nationally ranked opponent of the weekend. The Framingham, Mass., native fell in his first-place match to No. 18 Jarmere Jenkins of Virginia, 6-2, 6-2.
The Orange and Blue will return to action in two weeks at the D'Novo All-American Championships, Oct. 6-9 in Tulsa, Okla.
