WACO, Texas - Julian Childers, Brian Page and Blake Bazarnik competed down in Waco, Texas today in the Baylor HEB Intercollegiate at the Hurd Tennis Center. The tournament consists of a 32 man singles draw and a 32 team doubles draw as well and includes players from Gonzaga, Idaho, Laredo Community College, Louisiana Lafayette, Oklahoma, UT-Arlington and UT-San Antonio and host Baylor.

Sophomore Julian Childers easily dictated his first round singles match with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Marek Pesicka from UT-Arlington. Childers picks up his third singles win of the fall season and his first set straight victory. Childers will have a tough test up next when he squares off with Baylor's Mate Zsiga, the three-seed of the tournament.

Fellow sophomore Brian Page followed suit as he cruised to a 6-3, 6-2 win over Damian Farinola from Louisiana Lafayette. Page also moved to 3-2 on the young season in singles play as he advanced to play six-seed Alvaro Nazal of Gonzaga.

"It was a good start for Julian and Brian," said Illinois Associate head coach Marcos Asse.  "They were both locked in and focused. Julian has a great opportunity tomorrow playing in a tough match against Zsiga. It will be a good test to see where he is right now. While, Brian just needs to keep playing his game and keep on winning those defensive battles."

Page and Childers also joined forces to compete in the doubles side of the tournament. They received a first round bye before they faced off against Perez/Robles of UT-Arlington. The two sides battled back and forth but it was Perez/Robles who emerged victorious in the tiebreak, 8-7(4).

Meanwhile, Blake Bazarnik's day did not go as planned as the junior transfer dropped a 6-1, 6-3 match to Nick Papac of Oklahoma. It was Bazarnik's first straight set loss of the fall season.

"This was the first time I've seen nerves from Blake," Asse said. "He just didn't play well today and was a little edgy out there. He made too many mistakes and just wasn't quite there yet."
