PALO ALTO, Calif. - Sophomores Kevin Anderson and Ryan Rowe's run for at title was extended another day, but the collegiate careers of two of the most decorated Illini in the history of the program came to an end at the NCAA individual championships in Palo Alto, Calif. Senior Ryler DeHeart fell in the singles tournament and in the doubles draw with Pramod Dabir. In the season ending poll, the Illini finished ranked No. 9 by the ITA.

2005 and 2006 All-American DeHeart was defeated by Texas' ninth-ranked and eighth-seeded Travis Helgeson, 6-2, 6-4 in the Round of 16. DeHeart's 39-8 record ranks the third most all-time by an Illini. The Tampa, Fla., native broke the Illinois school record with an overall singles record of 42-10, passing Gavin Sontag's 40-11 mark in 1997-98. In addition, DeHeart's 138 singles wins are the most all-time by an Illini and are 15 more than Michael Calkins previous record.

"Hats off to Helgeson," head coach Brad Dancer said. "He played very good tennis."

In doubles, DeHeart and Dabir, who form the nation's 19th-ranked tandem went the distance with sixth-ranked Marco Born and Andreas Siljestrom, but fell to the 2006 ITA All-American champions 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 in the round of 16.

"Those two (Born and Siljestrom) are very well coached and played solid tennis," Dancer said. "Their size posed a dilemma for our guys, but Ryler and Pramod went out swinging and that's all you can ask of them."

The fourth-ranked pair of Anderson and Rowe defeated the 20th-ranked team of Strahinja Bobusic and Colin Purcell of Georgia 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 to advance to tomorrow's quarterfinals. They will face Callum Beale and Miguel Reyes of Texas The Illini pair is the first doubles team to make the third round since Brian Wilson and Rajeev Ram captured the championship in 2003.
