LINCOLN, Neb. - With the regular season beginning to wind down, the 11th-ranked Fighting Illini men's tennis team wrapped its final Big Ten road trip with a 6-1 win over Nebraska on Sunday afternoon in Lincoln. Illinois continues its surge forward, winning its fifth straight to move to 18-7 overall and 7-2 in conference play.

"Nebraska is a very difficult place to play," said Illinois head coach Brad Dancer. "We had enough guys step up to the plate today to get the win."

The Illini also capped a great weekend of doubles, taking the early 1-0 advantage against the Cornhuskers today. No. 5 Tim Kopinski and Ross Guignon got things rolling with an 8-3 win over Bradford Zitsch and Brandon Videtich, as the Illinois duo moved to 7-1 in Big Ten doubles. No. 72 Alex Jesse and Jared Hiltzik picked up their second win on the weekend when they clinched the doubles point with an 8-6 victory over Dusty Boyer and Marc Herrmann on court two.

"Tim And Ross did a great job establishing themselves and setting the doubles tone," added Dancer. "It's time for our other teams to follow."

The Orange and Blue then upped the ante in singles, as every match was decided in straight sets. No. 11 Farris Gosea remained undefeated in conference play when he defeated Herrmann 6-2, 6-0 on court two. No. 8 Jared Hiltzik won his fifth consecutive match after dispatching Boyer 7-6(8), 6-3 in No. 1 singles.

Blake Bazarnik defeated Andrew Dzulynsky 6-3, 6-4 to move his dual match record to 16-5. Brian Page defeated Vasileios Stavropoulos 7-6(7), 6-3, in his first singles appearance since March 9. Alex Jesse then rounded out the Illini scoring with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Beau Treyz.

Lastly, No. 45 Tim Kopinski's eight match winning streak came to a halt on Sunday when Tom Blackwell bested the junior 6-2, 6-2.

"We have hard working guys," concluded Dancer. "They live tennis. We can play better."

Up next, the Orange and Blue return home for the regular season finale. Up first is Minnesota on Friday, April 18, at 3 p.m. CT, followed by Wisconsin on Sunday, April 20, at Noon CT.
