IOWA CITY, Iowa - The No. 11 Fighting Illini men's tennis team started its last regular season road trip with a 7-0 win over the Iowa Hawkeyes, earning their seventh shutout of the season. With the Illini's fourth straight win, the Orange and Blue move to 17-7 overall and 6-2 in conference play.

"It is never easy winning on the road and as coaches we did a poor job preparing our team this week," said Illinois head coach Brad Dancer.  "Overall it all comes down to how we prepare as individuals. Is each guy mentally and physically ready?"

Illinois won its 11th doubles point of the season with victories on courts one and two. The fifth ranked team of Tim Kopinski and Ross Guignon picked up their 13th dual match victory with a 8-3 win over Brian Alden and Michael Swank. Then No. 72 Jared Hiltzik and Alex Jesse sealed it with an 8-4 win over Jonas Dierckx and Matt Hagan.

"Give credit to our team that after going down early breaks in doubles they regrouped and executed better down the stretch," stated Dancer.

With his new career high No. 11 ranking, Farris Gosea continued to roll in singles, earning the Illini's second point with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Alden.

"Farris was battling some physical ailments and stepped up big for the team," added Dancer.

Alex Jesse moved to 5-3 on the year with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Swank at No. 6 singles. Next, No. 8 Jared Hiltzik clinched the team win with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Dierckx in his return to the No. 1 singles spot.

Thus, as courts four and five moved into third sets with the team result already decided, those two courts played a super tiebreak to quickly decide a winner. Bazarnik bested Hagan 10-4 in his tiebreak while Guignon gutted out an 11-9 third set decision.

No. 45 Tim Kopinski then completed the shutout with a 6-4, 7-6(4) win over Juan Estenssoro. It marked Kopinski's eighth straight victory.

Up next, the Illini will play their final regular season road match when they make the trip to Lincoln, Neb., to take on the Cornhuskers. That match is scheduled to begin at Noon CT on Sunday.
