Maestas Helps Team USA to Gold Medal at Pan American Championships

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The U.S. men's gymnastics team, including Illinois junior C.J. Maestas, brought home the team gold medal from the 2014 Pan American Championships held in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Team USA tabbed a score of 352.550 to beat out seven other teams including silver-medalist Columbia (346.800).

Maestas finished fourth in the all-around with a score of 87.600. The top three spots went to Jossimar Calvo of Columbia (89.300), Manrique Larduet Bicet of Cuba (89.250) and American Sean Melton (88.850).

The Corrales, New Mexico, native's top finish came on the floor when he grabbed fifth place with a score of 14.750 and was the team's top finisher in the event. C.J. finished sixth in both the pommel horse and high bar events and also took seventh in the parallel bars.
