Illini Gymnasts Wrap Up P&G Gymnastics Championships

PITTSBURGH, Penn. - Upon the completion of the final day of the P&G Men's Gymnastics Championships, Illinois's C.J. Maestas has earned himself a place on the U.S. National team. The junior-to-be finished 10th in the all around competition and is one of 15 gymnasts to qualify for the Senior U.S. National team.
Maestas tallied a score of 173.200 following scores of 86.350 and 86.850 from the two days of competition respectively. His top finish on the second day of the P&G Championships came in the still rings with a score of 31.000 good for third place.
The Corrales, New Mexico, native will head to Toronto next to compete at the Pan American Championships beginning on Friday, August 29.
C.J.'s day two still rings routine:
Freshman-to-be Bobby Baker finished the Junior P&G Championships all around competition with a total score of 168.200, good for the top spot. Baker competed in the senior competition after notching the top spot among the 17-18 Junior field during the first day of events. The Lemont, Illinois, native was one of three gymnasts to qualify for the Junior U.S. National team over the weekend.

Former Illini gymnast Paul Ruggeri concluded the final day placing seventh in the all around standings with a score of 175.750. Ruggeri will be joining Maestas on the Senior U.S. National Team.
