Luke Stannard qualified for the 2009 USA Gymnastics Visa Championships Aug. 12-15.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Illinois men's gymnastics senior Luke Stannard punched his ticket to the 2009 USA Gymnastics Visa Championships after placing first in the pommel horse (15.300) and third in the floor exercise (15.050) at the Men's National Qualifier in Colorado Springs, Colo., July 11.
The Waukegan, Ill., native was one of 26 gymnasts to advance based on total performance points and will compete alongside teammates Paul Ruggeri and Daniel Ribeiro, who had already qualified, at the Visa Championships Aug. 12-15 in Dallas, Texas.
All three Illini enjoyed successful post seasons this past year, as Stannard captured the Big Ten title in the pommel horse, while Ruggeri claimed the top spot in the floor exercise and parallel bars. At the NCAA Championships, Ruggeri won the parallel bars and his second-straight high bar title and Ribeiro took top honors in the pommel horse.
