The Illinois men's gymnastics team will be gunning for its first national championship since 1989 tonight at 7 p.m. CT at the Lloyd Noble Center in Norman, Okla. Ranked fourth in the nation entering the NCAA Championships, the Illini posted the top score in Thursday's qualifying sessions to enter Friday night's team finals at the No. 1 seed. A national championship would be the 10th all-time for Illini men's gymnastics and would be the first for any Illinois sport since men's tennis in 2003.

Illinois posted a season-high 356.25 on Thursday's second qualifier, to edge host and top-ranked Oklahoma by .05. The Fighting Illini will begin the team finals on vault and will rotate as follows: vault, parallel bars, high bar, floor exercise, pommel horse and rings.

The individual all-around crown is also on the line Friday night, with Illini Paul Ruggeri and C.J. Maestas to of the favorites to contend for the crown. In addition, the top-10 finishers from Friday night's team finals will qualify for the NCAA Individual Event Finals set for Saturday at 7 p.m.
